Toolkit Episode: Navigating Intimacy: Understanding ADHD's Impact on Women's Sexuality

In this week’s exclusive interview, Kate chats to experienced, accredited therapist and sexual advisor Debbie Amichai about unlocking your sexuality with ADHD.

With over 25 years of experience, Debbie has a master’s degree in social studies and social work from Oxford University. She runs clinics for individuals, couples and families and supports clients all over the world through video calls.

Debbie is also in the process of co-writing a book with her husband on how to be a happy and successful ADHD couple in the digital era. Debbie frequently works with couples where one or both partners has ADHD, and has discovered that most people are unaware of how their neurodivergence impacts their relationship.

This conversation with Debbie delves into the complex interplay between ADHD and women's sexuality, shedding light on the unique challenges and experiences faced by women with ADHD in their intimate relationships. What we discuss highlights how societal stigma and personal self-criticism can significantly impact sexual desire and satisfaction. We also explore the intricate relationship between hormonal fluctuations and ADHD symptoms, emphasizing the importance of understanding these dynamics for better management of both conditions.

We also speak about the effects of everyday stressors and relationship dynamics on sexual intimacy, particularly in the context of our busy lives and parenting. By fostering self-compassion and mindfulness, women can navigate their needs and advocate for a fulfilling sexual life.
